Happy New Year

I spent New Years Eve in Orlando with my family and Dom. We didn’t make any big plans but we still managed to enjoy a steak dinner together and then last minute, Dom and I ended up going to the Blue Man Group.  Following the show, we found a spot on the main drag of “Downtown Disney” to ring in the new year.  Cheers to 2012!

My new years day was spent saying goodbye to my family and then flying back to London.  Start with a late afternoon flight, add in a layover in Charlotte and the “flight home” turns into about an 18 hour day of travel.

The flight was packed full of kids who were still high on Christmas. We had the unfortunate luck of sitting next to two little boys and their parents: an old, thin, silent husband coupled with a young, obese mom who could do with a lesson (or twenty) from Super Nanny.

The navigation system on the plane failed just as we approached the runway and the captain announced a delay. This set the mom over the edge.  She professed her hatred of US Airways to all who would listen and she got so worked up that she started to cry as she mentioned the need to produce a death certificate for a discount on a previous flight.  With this, the silent, skinny husband got up and walked away. The rest of us wished we could do the same.

Happy New Year. Let’s hope it only gets better from here!
