NHS #2: Another A In My Book

Last weekend I came down with a nasty illness which I thought might be the flu. I was feeling very run down and feverish off and on. I was sick enough to postpone a work trip to Germany because the thought of trying to leave the house to sit in a taxi and deal with the airport was just too much to bear.

I called the doctor stating that I likely had the flu but that I wanted to make sure so that I could get meds if needed, prior to going out of town. The receptionist calmly told me that they currently weren't allowing flu patients into the office because apparently the flu is spreading so fast and it's too much of a risk to allow possibly contagious patients in.

Instead, they had a doctor call me back and do a phone consultation. Care without leaving the house. Pretty nice. She asked me a bunch of questions and in the end said it doesn't sound like the flu, but a different virus.  If it was anything like the others she had come across, it should last about five days. She also gave me some tips on treating the symptoms....such as gargling water with acetaminophen dissolved in it.  She said I was fine to fly and that I shouldn't be contagious by the following day.

Seriously, pretty nice service from a free health care system.

Another A in my book.
